Tricia Scott (née Patricia Bolam) was born in Warkworth and raised in West Auckland (New Zealand). Her introduction to sailing came as a teenager. Meeting Brett Kannemeyer in 1976 changed the course of her life. Before long she left a secure public servant job as a medical technician to sail offshore with Brett. Eight-metre-long Shaula became their mobile home for eight adventure-filled years. They were the youngest couple on the smallest boat with the least money. Fear and optimism in similar measure fueled their unique voyage.

Forty years after this trip began Tricia has finally collected words from her diaries and memories to write a series of books – two have been published so far. A third book is in draft for the completion of the voyage. When they set out on the voyage, they had no idea how far they’d go or whether they’d endure. Against all odds they survived. Some people said they were Brave. Others were less generous.
After the voyage(s) Brett settled in Nelson where he continued to sail, mountain bike and kayak impressive distances. Tricia went on to marry and have a family, simultaneously pursuing her career (as an environmental consultant) and land lubbing interests.
